Folder & File Size Scanner · End User License Agreement
The terms under which the scanner is licensed to you. Plain, fair, and short.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legal agreement between you and Subverting Complexity ("we", "us", "our") governing your use of the Folder & File Size Scanner application ("the tool"). They incorporate, and should be read together with, our Privacy Policy.
We grant you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download and use the tool on computers you own or control, in accordance with these Terms. This is a licence, not a sale — we retain all rights in the tool.
The tool contains no advertising, no in-app purchases, and no subscriptions.
You agree that you will not:
The tool operates strictly read-only. It reads file and directory metadata to report sizes and never modifies, moves, or deletes any file. It identifies well-known cache and temporary locations — package manager caches, browser caches, Windows temp, the Recycle Bin — and file types that are commonly safe to remove, and presents them as suggestions.
Those suggestions are informational only. You are solely responsible for deciding what to delete and for carrying out any deletion yourself, using your own judgement and your own tools. A location the scanner flags may still hold data you need. Back up anything important before you remove it.
The tool runs as a local web application: it starts a web server on your own machine and opens the interface in your browser. It binds to localhost and makes no outbound network calls. You are responsible for the security configuration of the machine you run it on, including not exposing that local port to untrusted networks.
The tool, including its design, code, branding, and all related intellectual property, is owned by Subverting Complexity and is protected by copyright and other laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights in our trademarks or branding.
The tool is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the tool will be uninterrupted or error-free, that every location will be readable, or that reported sizes will be exact — files locked or protected by the operating system may be skipped, and access-denied locations are summarised rather than scanned. You use the tool at your own risk. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any rights you may have as a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 or other applicable law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Subverting Complexity will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the tool. In particular, we are not liable for data you delete yourself after reviewing a cleanup suggestion.
This licence remains in effect until terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach these Terms. You may terminate it at any time by deleting the tool and its cache folder from your machine.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, including the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. You agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country of residence.
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The current version will always be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the tool after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
